Professor Nona Gelitashvili took part in the international alumni seminar “Green Economy: Sustainable Innovation and Entrepreneurship” hosted by Technical University of Berlin (Technische Universität Berlin - TU Berlin).
The seminar brought together 22 alumni from 19 countries - university professors, experts, and practitioners in various fields - to exchange experiences in sustainability, green innovation, and entrepreneurship, and to explore new approaches for promoting sustainable development. The seminar was organized by Professor Dr. Jan Kratzer from the Department of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management at TU Berlin, in cooperation with the Alumni Office of TU Berlin.
During the seminar, Professor Gelitashvili delivered a keynote presentation on her initiative “GreenStep Advisory – Empowering Green SMEs in Georgia through Academic Expertise.” The initiative aims to connect academic research, innovation infrastructure, and small businesses to support Georgia’s green transition. In her talk, Professor Gelitashvili emphasized the important role of universities in helping SMEs adopt sustainable business practices, develop innovative solutions, and strengthen their competitiveness - while encouraging the active participation of students and young graduates in green start-up projects.
The seminar program included lectures, discussions, and field visits focusing on sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation. Participants had the opportunity to learn about start-ups and green business models, visit key innovation hubs such as the EUREF Campus, Berlin Technology Parks, and MotionLab.Berlin, and observe first-hand modern approaches to prototyping, innovation management, and start-up support.
These experiences provided valuable insights into how universities and innovation centres can foster sustainable entrepreneurship and help SMEs transition to greener business practices. The seminar concluded with team presentations summarizing the main findings and ideas on how alumni can contribute to promoting green innovation in their respective countries.
